The Cincinnati Zoo Visits
Mike Nicolai from the Cincinnati Zoo visited our classroom last Friday to present two animals' life history, habitats, and behaviors. He brought a cave dwelling rat snake from Thailand named Pandolin. He also brought a northern white faced owl from Africa named Goblin. We learned so many new and interesting facts about both animals. We even got to gently pet the snake and owl. Thanks Cincinnati Zoo for visiting Amelia Elementary! We had a wonderful time learning about Pandolin and Goblin.

Art with Mrs. Kern
Mrs. Debi Kern is a retired Amelia Elementary art teacher. Our PTA sponsored a special art class for each class this month. Mrs. Kern introduced us to several famous artists including Leonardo DeVinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Michelangelo, and Pablo Picasso. She showed us pictures of each artist and examples of their work.
The lesson focus was on famous artist named Pablo Picasso. He created "Cubism" which was a new way of doing art. Mrs. Kern showed us one of his most famous paintings called The Three Musicians.

Dr. Seuss
We have been busy learning about Dr. Seuss! Do you know his real name was not Dr. Seuss and he was never a real doctor? He was born Theodor Seuss Geisel in 1904. This is just one of the many interesting facts we learned about Dr. Seuss. We started the month making Shh! I'm Reading! door knob signs on hats. We watched a video of Justin Beiber reading The Cat in the Hat.
The second day we watched a video of NFL quarterback Tim Tebow reading Green Eggs and Ham. We then wrote how to make green eggs and ham using first, next, then, and last.
We read The Lorax and made pictures with messages about taking care of our environment.
We brought in our Dr. Seuss books from home to share with our friends. We had a great time reading and learning about Dr. Seuss!
