We have been measuring everything in our classroom. We have been learning both the U.S. Customary and Metric Systems. We learned how to measure to the nearest inch, foot, yard, centimeter, and meter. We have also learned how to select appropriate measuring tools to find out the length of objects.

Maps
Need to find directions using a map? Ask a second grader! We are becoming expert map readers. We have learned about map symbols, the compass rose, and how to explain directional places on different types of maps.
Here is a mapping activity from Daily Geography Practice we used to explain directions at a school.

Earth Day Learning
We learned all about how to reduce, reuse, and recycle in celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd. We researched ways to take care of earth, ways people can hurt the earth, wrote ways to help, and about our human footprint. We made I Love Earth posters that we displayed in the hallway to show our new learning about reduce, reuse, and recylce. We have been learning about different kinds of maps in Social Studies so we also made earth books, shaped like globes to show ways people can hurt and help the earth.

Fancy outfit day was a huge hit! It was fun to see everyone dressed up in their fancy clothes.
The last day of Spirit Week was dress like a rock star. Here are some of our rock star classmates.
Congratulations to all our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders for showing what you know on the test! We know you all did great. We had fun decorating the 5th grade hall for testing week.

The Cincinnati Zoo Visits
Mike Nicolai from the Cincinnati Zoo visited our classroom last Friday to present two animals' life history, habitats, and behaviors. He brought a cave dwelling rat snake from Thailand named Pandolin. He also brought a northern white faced owl from Africa named Goblin. We learned so many new and interesting facts about both animals. We even got to gently pet the snake and owl. Thanks Cincinnati Zoo for visiting Amelia Elementary! We had a wonderful time learning about Pandolin and Goblin.
